Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

½ teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

1 cup unsweetened applesauce

½ cup milk

¼ cup melted unsalted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and finely diced

For the coating:

½ cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add applesauce, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture is smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Add Apples: Fold in the finely diced apple pieces, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Fill the Donut Pan: Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about ¾ full.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the donuts are golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cool: Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Coating: In a small bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon for the coating.

Coat the Donuts: Once the donuts are cool, brush them lightly with melted butter, then roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.

Serve: Arrange the donuts on a serving plate, and enjoy them fresh with a cup of coffee or tea!
