Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

6 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Caramel Sauce:

1 cup granulated sugar

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

A pinch of sea salt

For the Crisp Topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: In a large bowl, combine the sliced Granny Smith apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Spread the mixture evenly into a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Make the Caramel Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar and butter. Stir continuously until the sugar melts and turns a golden amber color (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and carefully whisk in heavy cream (it will bubble up), vanilla extract, and a pinch of sea salt. Set aside to cool slightly.

Prepare the Crisp Topping: In a mixing bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour in the melted butter and mix until the topping resembles coarse crumbs.

Assemble the Crisp: Pour half of the caramel sauce over the apple mixture, then scatter the crisp topping evenly over the apples. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce on top for an extra layer of sweetness.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the apple crisp for 40-45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.

Serve: Allow the crisp to cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzling additional caramel sauce over the top, if desired.

              Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 8-10
