Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1 cup uncooked long-grain rice

2 cups beef broth

2 cups fresh broccoli florets

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Sauté Beef and Aromatics: In a large skillet or pan over medium heat, add the olive oil. Once hot, add the diced onion and garlic. Sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion is translucent.

Cook the Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the pan. Break it up with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Add Rice and Liquids: To the cooked beef, stir in the uncooked rice, beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a gentle simmer.

Incorporate Broccoli: Once the mixture is simmering, gently fold in the broccoli florets. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and reduce the heat to low. Allow it to cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the liquid is mostly absorbed.

Add Cheese: Remove the lid and sprinkle the cheddar cheese evenly over the top of the rice mixture. Cover again briefly for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Serve: Remove from heat and let it rest for a couple of minutes before serving. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with additional cheese or fresh herbs if desired.
