Mini Egg and Cheese Bread Bakes

6 slices of crusty bread (sourdough or baguette works great)

6 large eggs

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/2 cup milk

1/4 cup heavy cream

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1 tablespoon fresh chives, chopped (optional)

Olive oil or butter, for greasing the baking dish

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a muffin tin or small ramekins with olive oil or butter.

    Prepare the Bread: Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice of bread slightly. Then, cut each slice into quarters to fit snugly into the muffin tin or ramekins.

      Line the Muffin Tin: Place four pieces of bread in each muffin cup, pressing them down gently to form a base.

        Make the Egg Mixture: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until well combined. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chives, if using.

          Fill the Muffin Tin: Pour the egg and cheese mixture over the bread in each muffin cup, ensuring the bread is well soaked. Leave a little space at the top, as the mixture will puff up while baking.
