Pecans play a crucial role in the topping of caramel pecan sticky buns. Their rich, buttery flavor complements the sweetness of the caramel sauce and adds a delightful crunch that contrasts with the soft, fluffy dough. When selecting pecans for your sticky buns, opt for fresh, high-quality nuts, as this will significantly enhance the overall flavor profile. Toasting the pecans lightly before incorporating them into the caramel mixture can intensify their nuttiness and add depth to your buns. Simply spread them on a baking sheet and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Allow them to cool before mixing them into the topping.

1/2 cup whole milk, warmed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup unsalted butter

1/4 cup light corn syrup

1/2 cup pecans, chopped

1 tsp vanilla extract

For the Filling:

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 tbsp cinnamon

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm milk, yeast, and granulated sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

Mix Ingredients: Stir in the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add in the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Caramel Topping: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar, butter, corn syrup, and vanilla. Stir until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.

Assemble the Topping: Pour the caramel mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish and sprinkle the chopped pecans over the top.

Roll Out the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches).

Make the Filling: In a small bowl, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped pecans. Spread this mixture evenly over the rolled out dough.

Form the Buns: Starting from one long end, carefully roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up in the prepared baking dish with the caramel topping.

Second Rise: Cover the dish with a cloth and let the buns rise again in a warm place for about 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake: Bake the buns for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving platter.

Serve: Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, sticky goodness of your caramel pecan sticky buns!
