Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon instant coffee granules

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt for topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Melt the butter: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Once melted, remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Mix the wet ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and instant coffee granules.

Combine dry and wet ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Stir in chocolate chips: Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Pour into the pan: Spread half of the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing it into an even layer. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the brownie layer.

Layer remaining batter: Carefully spread the remaining brownie batter on top of the caramel layer. Drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top, and use a knife to create swirls for decoration.

Bake: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and slice: Allow the brownie bars to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper overhang and cut into squares.

Serve: For added flair, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top of each brownie bar before serving. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or your favorite milk!
